New Delhi, May 18: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will arrive in Norway on Monday to participate in the 3rd India-Nordic Summit and hold bilateral talks aimed at strengthening economic and strategic ties with Nordic nations.
The visit marks Modi’s first trip to Norway and the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the country in over four decades. During the visit, he will meet King Harald V and Queen Sonja and hold bilateral discussions with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store.
The Prime Minister is also scheduled to jointly address the India-Norway Business and Research Summit alongside his Norwegian counterpart.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the visit will serve as an opportunity to review bilateral relations and explore cooperation in trade, investment, clean and green technologies, and the blue economy, leveraging the India-EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA).
The MEA said the visit is expected to boost bilateral trade, currently valued at around USD 2.73 billion in 2024, and support investment flows, including nearly USD 28 billion invested in Indian capital markets through Norway’s Government Pension Fund.
The 3rd India-Nordic Summit, scheduled in Oslo on May 19, will bring together leaders from Norway, Denmark, Finland, Iceland and Sweden.
The summit will build on earlier meetings held in Stockholm in 2018 and Copenhagen in 2022, with discussions focused on technology and innovation, renewable energy, sustainability, defence, space, the Arctic and the blue economy.
The MEA said the engagement is also expected to strengthen India’s broader trade and investment relationship with Nordic countries, currently valued at about USD 19 billion, while supporting resilient supply chains through evolving India-Europe trade frameworks.
