New Delhi, May 16: Narendra Modi is set to hold bilateral talks with Rob Jetten and meet King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima on Saturday as part of his official visit to the Netherlands.

The Prime Minister is also expected to engage with the Indian diaspora and interact with leading Dutch business leaders during the visit, which is aimed at deepening strategic, economic, and technology partnerships between the two countries.

This marks Modi’s second visit to the Netherlands after his 2017 trip and comes at a time when bilateral ties are expanding into new strategic sectors beyond traditional trade and investment cooperation.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, India-Netherlands relations have strengthened significantly in recent years across areas such as water management, agriculture, healthcare, semiconductors, renewable energy, defence, innovation, maritime cooperation, and advanced technologies.

Prime Minister Modi arrived in the Netherlands on Friday evening as part of his broader multi-nation diplomatic tour across Europe aimed at strengthening India’s engagement with key strategic partners.

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the visit would provide an opportunity to further enhance the “multifaceted India-Netherlands partnership” and engage with one of the largest Indian-origin communities in mainland Europe.

The bilateral relationship is also supported by strong people-to-people ties. The Netherlands hosts more than 90,000 non-resident Indians and persons of Indian origin, along with over 200,000 members of the Suriname-Hindustani community. Around 3,500 Indian students are currently pursuing higher education in Dutch universities.

Officials indicated that the visit carries a broad strategic agenda and is expected to reinforce cooperation in high-growth sectors such as semiconductors, clean energy, digital innovation, supply chain resilience, and maritime security.

The visit underscores India’s growing focus on expanding partnerships with European economies amid evolving global trade, technology, and geopolitical dynamics.
