Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday embarked on a three-nation diplomatic tour covering Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand, describing the visit as a major step towards strengthening India’s Act East Policy, MAHASAGAR Vision and commitment to a free, open and inclusive Indo-Pacific. The visit is expected to deepen strategic partnerships, expand economic cooperation and reinforce India’s growing engagement across the Indo-Pacific region.
The Prime Minister will first visit Indonesia from July 6 to 8 at the invitation of President Prabowo Subianto. India and Indonesia share a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, and the visit follows President Prabowo’s participation as the Chief Guest at India’s Republic Day celebrations in January 2025. PM Modi said the visit would further strengthen civilisational, cultural, economic and people-to-people ties between the two countries. He is also scheduled to interact with the Indian diaspora and visit the historic Prambanan Temple complex in Yogyakarta alongside President Prabowo.
Following Indonesia, PM Modi will travel to Melbourne, Australia, where he will hold talks with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. Discussions will focus on defence and security cooperation, trade and investment, education, mobility, critical and emerging technologies, sports and sports science. The Prime Minister will also engage with the Indian community in Australia, describing the diaspora as an important pillar of the bilateral strategic partnership.
The final leg of the visit will take PM Modi to Auckland, New Zealand, where he will meet Prime Minister Christopher Luxon. Building on the momentum generated during Luxon’s India visit in March 2025, both leaders are expected to discuss trade, commerce, economic cooperation and implementation of the India-New Zealand Free Trade Agreement. PM Modi will also address members of the Indian diaspora, acknowledging their significant contribution to strengthening bilateral relations.
