NLC India Ltd Observes World Ozone Day 2024; Marks the Curtain Raiser for the Swachhata Hi Seva and Special Campaign 4.0
New Delhi, Sept 17: Chairman and Directors Lead by Example, Commuting to Office by Bicycle in Support of Global Environmental Efforts
As the Swachhata Hi Seva 2024 campaign rolls out from September 15 to October 1, 2024, the World Ozone Day on September 16 served to act as the curtain raiser as NLCIL reaffirmed its commitment to environment sustainability with an impactful initiative led by its Chairman and Managing Director, along with Functional Directors, Chief Vigilance Officer, the Executive Director of Corporate Environment Cell, NLCIL officials and members of the local community.

Swachhata Hi Seva presents an opportunity for all citizens, partners, and stakeholders to actively participate and renew the pledge to maintain cleanliness, honor the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi, and make Swachhata a way of life.
Aligned with this vision, NLCIL will organize a slew of activities as part of Swachhata Hi Seva 2024 focusing on generating awareness through mass participation and its Special Campaign 4.0. Today, in recognition of World Ozone Day, the leadership team of NLCIL chose to commute to the office by bicycle on this significant day, aligning with the global mission to reduce carbon footprints and safeguard the ozone layer.

Speaking on the occasion, Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, Chairman and Managing Director of NLCIL, emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in combating environmental challenges. The theme of this year’s World Ozone Day—‘Montreal Protocol: Fixing the Ozone Layer and Reducing Climate Change’— was a timely reminder of our shared duty to protect the planet for future generations, he said.
The Ozone Day is being celebrated today in commemoration of the signing of the Montreal Protocol in 1987, a landmark agreement between governments, scientists, and industry to reduce ozone-depleting substances and the small act of cycling to work is symbolic of our broader commitment to integrating sustainability into our corporate ethos and daily practices,” said Prasanna Kumar Motupalli. He also exhorted all employees to put in their best efforts to make the ongoing “Swachhata Hi Seva” and “Special Campaign 4.0” a huge success as in the past.
NLCIL has long been a frontrunner in promoting clean energy and sustainable practices within India’s energy sector. Beginning with the World Ozone Day 2024, the company’s leadership aimed to raise awareness of the significance of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and adopting eco-friendly commuting options. This initiative reflects NLCIL’s ongoing environmental stewardship, which spans solar and wind power projects, afforestation efforts, and policies designed to conserve natural resources.

The event witnessed participation from employees, local community members, and various stakeholders. “Environmental conservation is not just a corporate initiative; it’s a movement that needs every individual to play their part”. “Today’s symbolic cycling initiative by around 50 participants is a reminder that change begins with us, and together, we can contribute to a healthier, greener planet.” NLCIL remains committed to integrating Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) across its operations, continually reducing its environmental footprint while promoting renewable energy.
