The Silver Jubilee edition of the Neyveli Book Fair 2026 concluded on a grand note with more than 2 lakh visitors, including over 65,000 students from 510 schools. New Delhi, June 29: The 25th Neyveli Book Fair 2026, marking its Silver Jubilee Edition, concluded with a spectacular valedictory ceremony on 28 June 2026, reinforcing its reputation as one of Tamil Nadu’s most significant literary and cultural festivals. Organized by NLC India Limited (NLCIL), the 10-day event witnessed an overwhelming response, attracting more than two lakh visitors, including students, teachers, families, book lovers and cultural enthusiasts from Neyveli and neighbouring districts.

The valedictory function was graced by Shri Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, Chairman and Managing Director (CMD), NLC India Limited, who served as the Chief Guest.

NLCIL Renames Lignite Hall as Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Hall

One of the defining moments of the closing ceremony was the official renaming of the iconic Lignite Hall as the “Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Hall.” The dedication pays tribute to India’s former President and renowned scientist Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, whose vision for education, innovation and nation-building continues to inspire generations.

The initiative, undertaken under the leadership of CMD Shri Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, reflects NLCIL’s commitment to promoting knowledge, scientific thinking and lifelong learning.

Addressing the gathering, Shri Prasanna Kumar Motupalli congratulated the Organising Committee for successfully conducting what he described as the finest edition in the Book Fair’s 25-year history.

He highlighted that the event welcomed around 2 lakh visitors over ten days, including more than 65,000 students representing 510 educational institutions. According to him, the remarkable participation demonstrates the growing importance of the Book Fair as a platform for education, creativity and social inclusion.

The CMD stated that the Neyveli Book Fair perfectly reflects NLCIL’s philosophy of inclusive growth, where educational, literary and cultural initiatives are integrated with community development.

On a personal note, Shri Motupalli shared that the Silver Jubilee edition held special significance for him as his own book was released during the inaugural ceremony. Encouraging children and young readers, he reminded them that many successful global leaders attribute their achievements to the habit of reading and urged them to cultivate a lifelong love for books.

Senior Leadership Participates

The valedictory ceremony witnessed the presence of NLCIL’s senior leadership, including:

Executive Directors, senior officials, employees, representatives of trade unions, welfare associations, Women in Public Sector (WIPS), members of the media, teachers, students and the general public also attended the function.

To commemorate the Silver Jubilee celebrations, the dignitaries released a special e-Souvenir, documenting the journey and achievements of the Neyveli Book Fair over the past 25 years.

The formal ceremony concluded with a vibrant arts and cultural programme presented by talented students from Neyveli schools.

Record Participation and Silver Jubilee Achievements

The 25th Neyveli Book Fair 2026 established several new milestones:

  • Over 2 lakh visitors attended the Book Fair during its ten-day run.
  • 65,000 school students from 510 educational institutions visited the fair free of cost.
  • Around 2,000 students and visitors participated in daily on-the-spot competitions.
  • The Short Film Competition attracted 95 entries from aspiring filmmakers.
  • Ten eminent writers and ten leading publishers were honoured for their contributions to literature.
  • Seventeen new books, authored by established and emerging writers, were officially released.
  • The Booksellers and Publishers Association of South India (BAPASI) introduced innovative reader recognition initiatives, awarding certificates to visitors purchasing books worth ₹5,000 and ₹10,000, along with lucky draws featuring books as prizes.

A Celebration Beyond Books

The Silver Jubilee edition offered visitors much more than book exhibitions. Daily literary sessions, author interactions, poetry discussions, cultural programmes, creative competitions and educational activities created a vibrant atmosphere throughout the fair.

A special public awareness initiative by NLCIL’s Vigilance Department, featuring a mobile LED display and social awareness campaigns, attracted significant public attention.

Dedicated children’s activity zones, food courts, amusement areas and family-friendly recreational spaces enhanced the overall visitor experience. Throughout the event, organizers ensured high standards of safety, visitor comfort and seamless event management.

The previous day’s programme, held on 27 June, featured Dr. Prasanna Kumar Acharya, Director (Finance), NLCIL, as the presiding dignitary. Prof. Dr. S. Mohan, Vice-Chancellor of Puducherry Technological University, attended as Chief Guest, while Dr. Justin Joseyphus, Dean, National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli, participated as Guest of Honour. The event also witnessed the release of poetry and short story collections authored by Neyveli writers.

Responding to overwhelming public demand, the organizers announced that the Neyveli Book Fair 2026 would remain open for an additional day on 29 June, giving visitors another opportunity to purchase books and participate in the literary celebrations.
