INDRAPRASTHA GAS LIMITED TO SUPPLY CNG AND PNG IN KAITHAL DISTRICT

Kaithal, 8th March 2019: Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL), the largest CNG distribution company of the country has received Letter of Intent (LOI) from Petroleum & Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) just a few days back after 10th round of bidding to lay City Gas Distribution (CGD) network in the geographical area comprising district of Kaithal in Haryana. The project will be aimed at providing supply of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and Piped Natural Gas (PNG) in this district and it is expected that the first CNG station and piped gas connection would be made available within a year. IGL has already started its CGD project in adjoining Karnal district.

Dr. Priyanka Soni, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Kaithal announced the same in a function held today in Kaithal. Shri Satpal Garg, Member, PNGRB, Shri E.S. Ranganathan, Managing Director, IGL, senior officials from district administration, IGL and mediapersons were present on the occasion.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Soni welcomed IGL to district Kaithal for setting up City Gas Distribution infrastructure. She added that this is an apt gift to the women of the city on the occasion of International Women’s Day that they will soon be getting convenience of having cooking gas being piped directly to their kitchens. Applauding the track record of IGL in implementing CGD projects, she called upon IGL to undertake timely implementation of the project and assured all support from the district administration for statutory clearances.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Satpal Garg highlighted role of PNGRB in lauded the efforts of the central government in bringing facilities to the vast population of the country. He informed that PNGRB is facilitating roll out of city gas distribution projects across the country with an objective of making India a gas based economy and increasing the share of gas in overall energy basket of the country from current 6% to 15%. He expressed confidence that an efficient company like IGL will be able to roll out the project with speed while meeting all the prescribed deadlines.

Earlier, welcoming the gathering Shri E.S. Ranganathan outlined the plans of IGL to set up CNG refueling infrastructure and piped gas facilities in the area. He announced that as per minimum work programme, IGL plans to set up 4 CNG stations and provide PNG connections to around 10,000 households in the next two years across the geographical area. He added that along with domestic kitchens, IGL would also be providing gas connections to industries and commercial establishments like hotels, restaurants and hospitals in the region.

IGL, a joint venture of PSUs, GAIL (India) Ltd. and BPCL is already engaged in supplying CNG and PNG in Delhi, Gautam Budh Nagar, Ghaziabad, Rewari and Gurugram.
