IndiGo Names Willie Walsh as CEO, Eyes Next Phase of Growth

IndiGo Appoints William Walsh as CEO

New Delhi, March 31: InterGlobe Aviation Limited has appointed Willie Walsh as Chief Executive Officer of IndiGo, subject to regulatory approvals, following the resignation of Pieter Elbers earlier this month.

Walsh, currently Director General of International Air Transport Association (IATA), will conclude his tenure on July 31, 2026, and is expected to join IndiGo by August 3, 2026.

A veteran aviation leader, Walsh previously served as CEO of British Airways and International Airlines Group (IAG), bringing extensive experience in managing large-scale airline operations and global networks.

IndiGo Chairman Vikram Singh Mehta said Walsh’s leadership will be key to navigating competitive market dynamics and driving the airline’s next growth phase. Managing Director Rahul Bhatia highlighted Walsh’s global perspective and operational expertise as critical to the airline’s transformation journey.

Walsh will oversee the airline’s strategic direction, focusing on operational efficiency, network expansion, commercial strategy, and customer experience enhancement.

The leadership transition comes after a challenging period for IndiGo, including operational disruptions in late 2025, even as the airline continues to maintain its position as India’s largest carrier.
