India’s Biogas Sector Set to Attract ₹5,000 Crore Investment

New Delhi, Dec 21: India’s biogas sector is projected to attract over Rs 5,000 crore in investments in FY 2026-27 due to rising gas demand, according to the Indian Biogas Association (IBA).

In FY 2024-25, 94 compressed biogas (CBG) plants sold over 31,400 tonnes of CBG, highlighting sector growth. The IBA anticipates new CBG facilities and enhanced supply chains, bolstered by an improved GST regime which could boost investments by 45%. CBG, derived from organic waste, aligns with India’s goals to reduce oil imports and emissions while supporting rural economies.

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy offers financial assistance to promote projects and related organic fertiliser marketing.
