New Delhi, June 03 : In line with the global commitment to environmental sustainability, Mr Pankaj Jain, Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, in the presence of Mr S M Vaidya, Chairman, IndianOil flagged off the World Environment Day 2023 Cyclothon. The Cyclothon event coincided with World Bicycle Day. Captains of the Indian energy PSU fraternity, including IndianOil's Functional Directors, also graced the occasion.
The green ride commenced from the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in the city and witnessed massive participation from individuals representing all walks of life. This was among the several events organised to enhance public awareness on environmental issues. The gathering also saw the presence of UNEP ambassadors, Mr. Pranav Gaba and Ms. Shreya Kaushik, who expressed their ideas for a more sustainable and environmentally friendly world.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Pankaj Jain, Secretary MoPNG, emphasized the industry's dedication to sustainability and environmental stewardship. He highlighted the importance of reducing carbon emissions and promoting eco-friendly modes of transport. Mr. Jain also praised the Oil & Gas Industry for its efforts in driving the adoption of renewable energy projects and implementing sustainable practices across operations.
Addressing the participants of the Cyclothon, Mr Vaidya said, "This Cyclothon on World Bicycle Day marks the firm resolve of India and its Energy PSU fraternity to promote a healthier lifestyle and cleaner environment.Our teams are leaving no stone unturned to green up our existing fuel offerings. We are relentlessly working to explore futuristic green energy frontiers like Hydrogen, Biofuels, Electric Vehicles, Battery Technologies etc".
During the programme, Mr Jain and Mr Vaidya, along with other dignitaries unveiled a special World Environment Day poster that reflects the resolve of the energy industry to propel the nation towards a cleaner tomorrow. This was followed by the felicitation of UNEP eco-warriors, recognizing the pivotal role today's youth plays in building a greener tomorrow. The Cyclothon provided a platform for the participants to reinforce their commitment to a more sustainable and greener future.
