New Delhi, March 15: Two LPG tankers—Shivalik LPG tanker and Nanda Devi LPG tanker—have safely transited the Strait of Hormuz and are heading to India carrying around 92,700 metric tonnes of LPG, the government said on Saturday.
According to Rajesh Kumar Sinha, Special Secretary at the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, the vessels are expected to arrive at Mundra Port on March 16 and Kandla Port on March 17.
Both vessels are owned by Shipping Corporation of India Limited. Following their transit, 22 Indian-flagged vessels remain in the Persian Gulf with a total of 611 seafarers onboard.
Officials said all Indian seafarers in the region are safe and no untoward incidents have been reported in the past 24 hours.
Meanwhile, Mohammad Fathali, Iran’s Ambassador to India, confirmed that Tehran has allowed some Indian vessels to pass through the Strait, though he did not disclose operational details. He said the development reflects the longstanding relations between Iran and India.
Sources indicated that more Indian tankers are expected to cross the route after Iran granted safe passage to Indian-flagged vessels through the strategic waterway.
The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most critical shipping corridors, carrying nearly 20% of global oil and gas exports.
