India, Netherlands Set to Deepen Strategic Partnership During Modi Visit

New Delhi, May 13: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s two-day visit to the Netherlands later this week will focus on strengthening bilateral relations and formalising a strategic partnership between the two countries, according to a statement from the Dutch government.

During the visit on May 16, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima will receive Prime Minister Modi at the Huis ten Bosch Palace. A luncheon will also be hosted in honour of the Indian Prime Minister, attended by senior officials, CEOs of Dutch companies, and representatives from the arts, culture, and academic sectors.

PM Modi will later meet Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten at the Catshuis, where the two leaders will engage in bilateral discussions and participate in a CEO roundtable focused on economic cooperation. The discussion will include leading Dutch business figures and will be opened by Netherlands Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Sjoerd Wiemer Sjoerdsma.

A formal cooperation agreement will be signed in the presence of both leaders, marking a key step in advancing the strategic partnership between India and the Netherlands.

The two Prime Ministers will also hold delegation-level talks and an informal dinner, covering a wide range of issues including security cooperation, emerging technologies, water management, global economic challenges, and ongoing geopolitical tensions in West Asia and Ukraine.

The visit will conclude on May 17, and will include the exchange of multiple agreements under the broader strategic partnership framework.

According to India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the visit is expected to build on strong momentum in bilateral relations across defence, innovation, semiconductors, green hydrogen, and water management.

The Netherlands is one of India’s key European partners, with bilateral trade valued at USD 27.8 billion in 2024–25 and cumulative foreign direct investment of USD 55.6 billion, making it India’s fourth-largest investor.

This will be Prime Minister Modi’s second official visit to the Netherlands, following his earlier trip in 2017.
