New Delhi, Feb 05: The production of India-made Linke-Hofmann-Busch (LHB) railway coaches increased significantly, rising from 2,337 units during 2004-2014 to 42,677 units in 2014-2025, as reported by Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in the Lok Sabha.
LHB coaches, made with German technology, are designed for speeds of 160-200 km/h and offer improved safety and comfort over older coaches. There are currently three coach manufacturing units in India, with substantial funding allocated for their development and upgrades, including Rs 3,042.83 crore for the Modern Coach Factory in Raebareli.
The transition from ICF to LHB coaches is being phased in, emphasizing safety and technological advancements.
