New Delhi, Dec 05: The government has approved an additional 25 lakh LPG connections under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) to address pending applications and enhance household LPG access.
The eligibility criteria have been simplified to include adult women from poor households based on a Deprivation Declaration. Since its launch in May 2016, PMUY has provided around 10.33 crore connections.
To make LPG more affordable, a targeted subsidy was increased from Rs 200 to Rs 300 per 14.2 kg cylinder in May 2022, available for up to nine refills annually.
The scheme has positively impacted rural households, especially women, by reducing indoor air pollution, health risks, and the time spent collecting traditional fuels, thereby allowing women to engage in more productive activities.
