New Delhi, Jan 27: European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced the successful conclusion of a free trade agreement between India and the EU, dubbed the “mother of all deals,” creating a free trade zone for two billion people.
The agreement removes tariffs on 97% of India’s exports, boosting key manufacturing sectors while opening the Indian market to European products. Leaders from both sides emphasized the commitment to strengthening their partnership on various fronts, including trade, defence, and climate change.
The deal marks the culmination of an 18-year effort and is expected to take effect next year, enhancing bilateral relations and addressing global issues. PM Narendra Modi celebrated the pact as an example of partnership between India and Europe.
