CISF personnel detected “Agarwood”  weighing about 93 kg worth approximately INR 04 crore 65 lakh at IGI Airport, New Delhi

New Delhi, 19.12.2023: On 19.12.2023 at about 1255 hrs, on  profiling basis, CISF surveillance & intelligence staff at IGI Airport, New Delhi selected two female passengers for random checking in departure area of Terminal-3, IGI Airport. These female passengers alongwith their baggages were taken to the random checking point for thorough checking. During x-ray screening of their 03 trolley bags, some suspicious images of Agarwood were noticed.

The passengers were later identified as Ms. Shabnam and Ms. Shahana (both Indians) bound for Bangkok by Air India Airlines flight No. AI 332 (STD 1330 hrs).   The matter was informed to the Custom officials.

Thereafter, the passengers were allowed to complete check-in and Immigration formalities under close physical and electronic surveillance. As the passengers cleared the check-in and immigration formalities, they were intercepted by CISF surveillance and intelligence staff.  

Later both the lady  passengers alongwith their baggages were brought to the Departure Customs office. On physical checking 93 kgs of Agarwood chips were detected from the trolley bags. They could not produce any valid document to carry the Agarwood.           Agarwood is used in making perfume.  

Later, both the female passengers alongwith recovered 93 kgs of Agarwood worth approximately INR 04 crore 65 lakh were handed over to Customs Officials for further legal action in the matter.
