New Delhi, Feb 1 (IANS): The Central government of India has proposed the development of seven high-speed rail corridors aimed at enhancing connectivity between key urban and economic centers.
Announced by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman during the Union Budget 2026-27 speech, the routes will include Mumbai-Pune, Pune-Hyderabad, Hyderabad-Bengaluru, Hyderabad-Chennai, Chennai-Bengaluru, Delhi-Varanasi, and Varanasi-Siliguri.
This initiative seeks to reduce travel time and emissions while fostering regional development. Additionally, a high-level committee on banking will be established to review the banking system, ensuring financial stability and consumer protection as India’s financial sector continues to strengthen.
Proposed reforms will also modernize rules on foreign investment to align with evolving economic priorities. In support of the textile sector, an integrated programme, including the National Fibre Scheme, is set to promote self-reliance in various fibers.
