New Delhi, Dec 24 The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved three new corridors under Delhi Metro Phase V (A), aimed at significantly enhancing connectivity across the national capital.
The approved corridors include R.K. Ashram Marg–Indraprastha (9.913 km), Aerocity–IGI Airport Terminal 1 (2.263 km), and Tughlakabad–Kalindi Kunj (3.9 km), together covering a total length of 16.076 km.
The total project cost of Phase V (A) stands at ₹12,014.91 crore, to be funded by the Government of India, Government of Delhi, and international funding agencies.
The Central Vista corridor will connect all Kartavya Bhawans, providing doorstep metro access to office-goers and visitors. Once operational, it is expected to benefit around 60,000 office-goers and nearly 2 lakh visitors daily, while also contributing to reduced pollution and lower fossil fuel consumption.
The R.K. Ashram Marg–Indraprastha stretch will extend the Botanical Garden–R.K. Ashram Marg corridor, offering metro connectivity to the redeveloping Central Vista area.
The Aerocity–IGI Airport T1 and Tughlakabad–Kalindi Kunj sections will extend the Aerocity–Tughlakabad corridor, strengthening airport connectivity with South Delhi areas such as Saket, Chhatarpur, and Kalindi Kunj.
These extensions will include 13 stations, of which 10 will be underground and three elevated. The R.K. Ashram Marg–Indraprastha corridor will feature stations at Shivaji Stadium, Central Secretariat, Kartavya Bhawan, India Gate, War Memorial–High Court, Baroda House, Bharat Mandapam, and Indraprastha.
The Tughlakabad–Kalindi Kunj corridor will include Sarita Vihar Depot, Madanpur Khadar, and Kalindi Kunj, while Aerocity will be further connected to IGI Airport Terminal 1.
Upon completion, the new corridors will improve connectivity between West, North, Old, Central, and South Delhi, and provide seamless access to the domestic airport. The extensions of the Magenta Line and Golden Line are expected to ease road congestion, cut vehicular pollution, and boost economic activity.
Meanwhile, construction of Delhi Metro Phase IV, comprising 111 km and 83 stations, is progressing, with over 80% of civil work on priority corridors completed. The Phase IV corridors are scheduled for completion in stages by December 2026.
Currently, Delhi Metro handles an average of 65 lakh passenger journeys daily, with a record 81.87 lakh journeys logged on August 8, 2025. With 12 operational lines spanning nearly 395 km and 289 stations, Delhi Metro remains the largest metro network in India and among the largest globally.
