ATF Hits Record High, LPG Prices Surge on Global Oil Rally
New Delhi, April 01: State-owned oil marketing companies (OMCs) have sharply increased prices of aviation turbine fuel (ATF) and commercial LPG, tracking a spike in global crude oil prices amid the West Asia conflict.
Jet fuel prices more than doubled to a record high, with ATF in Delhi rising by ₹1,10,703 per kilolitre (114.5%) to ₹2,07,341 per kl — the first time prices have crossed the ₹2 lakh mark. The previous peak was recorded in 2022 following the Russia Ukraine conflict.
This marks the second consecutive monthly increase, following a 5.7% hike in March, intensifying cost pressures for airlines.
Commercial LPG prices were also raised by ₹195.50, taking the cost of a 19-kg cylinder to ₹2,078.50 in Delhi. However, domestic LPG prices remain unchanged at ₹913 for a 14.2-kg cylinder.
Fuel prices are revised monthly based on global benchmarks and currency movements. The latest increase reflects a nearly 50% surge in international crude oil prices due to supply disruptions.
In global markets, Brent crude rose to around $105.86 per barrel, while WTI crude traded above $103 per barrel, underscoring sustained volatility in energy markets.
The sharp rise in fuel costs is expected to increase operational expenses across aviation, hospitality, and industrial sectors, potentially impacting inflation dynamics.
