New Delhi, July 15: The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) is set to launch a revamped ticket booking website on July 15, bringing a faster, smarter and more user-friendly experience for millions of railway passengers. The announcement was made by Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, who said the upgraded platform has been designed to improve reservation efficiency and customer convenience.

The new website will significantly increase booking capacity, enabling more than 1.5 lakh ticket bookings per minute, compared to the existing capacity of around 32,000 bookings per minute. At the same time, the upgraded Passenger Reservation System (PRS) will process over 40 lakh enquiries per minute, a tenfold improvement over the current capacity of approximately 4 lakh enquiries per minute, ensuring faster response times during peak demand.

One of the major enhancements is the introduction of passenger-centric booking features. Travellers will now be able to select their preferred seat preferences during ticket booking, while a new fare calendar will help users compare ticket prices across multiple travel dates before confirming their reservations, making travel planning more flexible and cost-effective.

To improve accessibility, the redesigned portal will support multiple Indian languages and provide integrated booking services for Divyangjan, students and patients through a single platform. These improvements aim to simplify the reservation process and make railway services more inclusive for diverse categories of passengers.

The upgraded website will also feature a cleaner and more streamlined interface by removing unnecessary pop-ups, flashing advertisements and excessive CAPTCHA prompts that often slow down bookings. These improvements are expected to make Tatkal ticket booking quicker, smoother and less frustrating for passengers.

Another major addition is the unified seat availability view, allowing users to check availability across Sleeper, AC 3 Tier, AC 2 Tier and other classes on a single screen instead of searching separately for each category. The enhancement will help passengers compare travel options more efficiently and complete bookings with greater ease.

The revamped IRCTC website marks a major digital upgrade for Indian Railways, offering faster bookings, improved accessibility and a more seamless ticket reservation experience for millions of passengers.
