New Delhi: The Viksit Bharat – Guarantee for Rozgar and Aajeevika Mission – Gramin (VB-G RAM G) Act, 2025under the Ministry of Rural Development has officially come into force across the country, marking a significant reform in India’s rural employment framework. The legislation provides 125 days of guaranteed wage employment to eligible rural households while enhancing wage rates and focusing on sustainable rural development.

According to the Government, the Act has been designed to strengthen rural livelihoods, improve transparency, create durable community assets, conserve natural resources, enhance agricultural productivity, promote livelihood opportunities and encourage women-led development.

Alongside the implementation of the Act, the Centre has notified revised wage rates for all States, Union Territories and notified wage areas. The revised rates ensure that no daily wage under the scheme is below Rs 300 anywhere in the country.

The national average notified wage has increased from Rs 298.8 per day to Rs 327.4 per day, representing an average increase of more than 10 per cent.

Several states, including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh, have recorded wage increases ranging between 15 and 25 per cent, offering greater financial support to rural workers.

To facilitate seamless implementation from the first day, the Government has already released an interim allocation of Rs 95,692.31 crore to States and Union Territories. The funds will support uninterrupted employment generation, timely wage payments and execution of rural development projects.

Union Minister for Rural Development and Agriculture Shivraj Singh Chouhan described the new legislation as a transformational step towards strengthening rural India.

He said the VB-G RAM G Act represents more than a new employment law, adding that it aims to provide dignity, livelihood security and self-reliance to millions of rural workers while accelerating the vision of a Viksit Bharat.

The Minister also stated that the Centre and States have completed all administrative, financial and technical preparations required for the nationwide rollout.

The National Launch Programme of the Act will be held on July 2, 2026, at Mukkavaripalle Village, Obulavaripalle Mandal, Tirupati district, Andhra Pradesh. The event will be attended by Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.

During the launch programme, the Government will formally unveil the VB-G RAM G software platform, distribute Rural Employment Guarantee Cards to beneficiaries, release key publications, interact with beneficiaries and inaugurate initiatives aimed at ensuring effective implementation of the new law.
