VB-G RAM G Marks Renewal of Social Protection, Says Agriculture Minister

Centre Releases Rs 10,021 Crore to 12 States Under PMAY-G

New Delhi, Dec 22: Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan provided an in-depth overview of the Viksit Bharat-Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) (VB-G RAM G), which aims to enhance India’s rural employment framework while addressing shortcomings of the previous scheme, MGNREGA.

The VB-G RAM G, recently enacted after receiving presidential assent, extends the guaranteed wage employment period from 100 to 125 days and introduces an unemployment allowance for those not employed within 15 days of application, which was not available under MGNREGA.

Chouhan emphasized that this new legislation does not dilute previous entitlements but addresses deficiencies in a constructive manner, viewing it as a renewal rather than a retreat from social protection. He stated that the law reinforces the right to demand employment and that state governments will act as development partners, with flexibility in implementing their own schemes.

The minister underscored the initiative’s goal of empowering the farming community and delivering results with dignity and predictability.
