Northeast Rail Boost: 10 Lumding Stations Earn ‘Eat Right Station’ Status

New Delhi, April 30: In a move aimed at strengthening food safety standards for railway passengers, 10 stations under the Northeast Frontier Railway have been awarded the “Eat Right Station” certification by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India.

The certification, valid from March 30, 2026, to March 29, 2028, also covers the Divisional Railway Manager’s office canteen at Lumding, according to Chief Public Relations Officer Kapinjal Kishore Sharma.

The recognised stations include Silchar, Karimganj, New Haflong, Diphu, Lumding, Lanka, Chaparmukh, Jagiroad, and Sarupathar.

The certification follows a comprehensive audit of food stalls, catering units, and food handlers, ensuring compliance with hygiene protocols, safe food preparation and storage practices, waste management systems, and the availability of nutritious food options.

Officials noted that the achievement reflects coordinated efforts among railway authorities, health inspectors, catering service providers, and station management teams to maintain high standards of cleanliness and food safety.

The “Eat Right Station” tag is part of the Eat Right India initiative, which promotes safe, healthy, and sustainable food practices nationwide.

Headquartered at Maligaon, the Northeast Frontier Railway operates across the Northeastern states, as well as parts of West Bengal and north Bihar, and continues to focus on enhancing passenger amenities and service quality across its network.
