New Delhi, March 31: Ministry of Defence India has signed a ₹1,950 crore capital acquisition contract with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) for the procurement of two advanced Mountain Radar systems for the Indian Air Force.
The contract, awarded under the ‘Buy (Indian–Indigenously Designed, Developed and Manufactured)’ category, underscores the government’s push towards self-reliance under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India initiatives.
The radar systems have been indigenously developed by the Electronics and Radar Development Establishment, a key arm of the Defence Research and Development Organisation, with BEL responsible for manufacturing and delivery.
Once deployed, the systems are expected to significantly enhance surveillance capabilities in mountainous regions, strengthening India’s air defence network and overall national security framework.
The procurement is also set to boost the domestic defence manufacturing ecosystem by promoting indigenous design, reducing reliance on imports, and driving technological advancement within the sector.
