New Delhi, March 22: At the Bharat Electricity Summit 2026 in New Delhi, a vendor development session titled “Advancing Make in India for Power Distribution” brought together over 150 stakeholders from government, industry, and utilities to accelerate domestic capabilities in the power sector.
Co-hosted by REC Limited and Power Finance Corporation, the session saw participation from the Ministry of Power, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Central Electricity Authority, distribution companies (DISCOMs), OEMs, suppliers, and industry bodies including the Indian Electrical and Electronics Manufacturers’ Association. KPMG served as the knowledge partner.
Chaired by Shashank Misra, the session opened with remarks from T. S. C. Bosh, who outlined the strategic agenda for strengthening indigenous manufacturing in power distribution.
Industry insights from IEEMA and leading DISCOMs highlighted best practices such as SCADA indigenisation and the integration of AI/ML technologies to enhance operational efficiency.
A panel discussion featuring Pranav Tayal, Saurav Kumar Shah, and Prabhat Kumar Singh focused on India’s readiness to scale domestic manufacturing and reduce import dependence. Key areas of emphasis included deployment of compact substations, underground cabling with GIS-based fault management, integration of SCADA–DMS–OMS systems, and adoption of Real-Time Data Acquisition Systems (RT-DAS).
The panel also highlighted the need for robust standards, interoperability, and enhanced testing infrastructure to ensure reliability and resilience in distribution networks at scale.
The session concluded with closing remarks by Ravi Dhawan, reinforcing the importance of coordinated action across stakeholders.
The summit continues to act as a critical platform for aligning government, industry, and utilities toward achieving the vision of a developed India by 2047, with a strong focus on self-reliance and technological advancement in the power sector.
