Major Rs 1.28 Lakh Crore Rail Infrastructure Projects Underway in Gujarat

Indian Railways Upgrades 54,600 km of Tracks from 2014 to 2026: Ashwini Vaishnaw

Gandhinagar, March, 01: Gujarat has been allocated ₹17,366 crore for railway development in the current Union Budget, marking a significant increase over previous years, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Sunday.

Speaking after inaugurating the Gujarat Semiconnect Conference-2026 at Mahatma Mandir, Vaishnaw said railway infrastructure in the state is witnessing accelerated expansion under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.

He noted that Gujarat received an average annual allocation of ₹589 crore during 2009–2014, compared with the record allocation this year.

The minister said railway projects worth ₹1.28 lakh crore are currently under execution in the state, aimed at network modernisation, capacity expansion and improved passenger amenities.

Under the Amrit Station Scheme, 87 stations in Gujarat have been identified for redevelopment into world-class facilities, with 21 projects already completed. Redevelopment work is progressing at key stations including Ahmedabad, Sabarmati, Surat, Una and Somnath.

On the Mumbai–Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail corridor, Vaishnaw said the government is preparing to operationalise the bullet train project next year. The corridor is expected to reduce travel time between the two cities to 1 hour and 57 minutes at a top speed of 350 kmph. Officials from Japan have recently reviewed progress and expressed satisfaction, he added.
