Gandhinagar, Feb 27 Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate Micron Technology’s semiconductor facility in Sanand, Gujarat, marking a key step in strengthening India’s chip manufacturing ecosystem.
The Phase-1 cleanroom spans five lakh square feet and ranks among the largest globally. The facility has been designed to meet Micron’s global standards and supports high-precision semiconductor manufacturing, where even minor environmental variations can disrupt production.
Chairman and CEO Sanjay Mehrotra said the cleanroom required three-and-a-half times the steel used in the Eiffel Tower and concrete equivalent to 100 Olympic-sized swimming pools. The plant features advanced air filtration, strict temperature and humidity controls, and comprehensive backup systems to ensure uninterrupted operations.
Micron, which has operated in India since 2019 with R&D centres in Bengaluru and Hyderabad, employs around 24,000 people in the country. The Sanand facility is expected to reinforce India’s position in the global semiconductor value chain.
