New Delhi, Feb 11: Indian Railways has initiated a successful trial of stainless steel containers for transporting salt in the Bhimasar-Gandhidham section.
These containers are designed to minimize corrosion and enhance durability, thereby ensuring cargo safety.
The dual large openings facilitate quick loading via a silo system or Poclain machine—loading time is under 15 minutes—while unloading with a hydraulic tipper truck is completed in less than 5 minutes.
Each container has a tare weight of approximately 3 tonnes, with two containers fitting per wagon, allowing for the transportation of up to 68.4 tonnes of salt per wagon.
This new system eliminates the need for manual cleaning, reduces moisture ingress, and increases overall operational efficiency, heralding a modern and reliable approach to freight transportation in Indian Railways.
