New Delhi, Feb 09: Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Union Minister for Railways, inaugurated the Siuri Road Over Bridge, dedicated the Kumarpur Road Over Bridge to the nation, and flagged off the new Asansol–Bokaro train service via video conferencing.
He emphasized that these initiatives are crucial for improving rail infrastructure, safety, and regional connectivity in West Bengal. A record budget of Rs. 14,205 crores has been allocated for Railways in West Bengal, significantly more than the previous years’ average, with ongoing projects worth Rs. 92,000 crores aimed at transforming the state’s infrastructure.
Additionally, the first Vande Bharat Sleeper train has been introduced, demonstrating the Prime Minister’s commitment to enhancing rail connectivity in West Bengal.
Plans for a forthcoming Bullet Train from Siliguri and the approval for an East-West freight corridor connecting West Bengal to Gujarat were also announced. Moreover, a strategic plan for an underground rail corridor in North Bengal is being developed for safe transportation.
The Siuri Road Over Bridge, costing Rs. 42 crore, aims to eliminate long waiting times at Level Crossing No. 22B/T near Siuri Railway Station, enhancing daily travel for locals and ensuring seamless movement for emergency vehicles.
The Kumarpur Road Over Bridge, constructed at Rs. 55 crore, improves access between Asansol city and neighboring regions, promoting commerce and reducing congestion on the important GT Road.
The newly flagged Asansol–Bokaro train service aims to enhance connectivity between key industrial regions, benefiting local residents and supporting regional economic ties. The regular operation of the Asansol – Bokaro MEMU passenger train service will begin on February 10, 2026.
