New Delhi, Feb 05: India has added 289.6 GW of power generation capacity since April 2014, bringing its total to 513.730 GW and transforming its status from power deficit to sufficient.
In the last year, the all-time maximum demand reached 250 GW, with the gap between energy supplied and required decreasing from 0.5% to NIL.
To ensure future capacity meets projected demand, states have developed dynamic 10-year Resource Adequacy Plans. By 2034-35, approximately 307,000 MW of thermal capacity is required, with at least 97,000 MW of new coal and lignite thermal capacity planned.
Additionally, significant hydroelectric, nuclear, and renewable projects are underway, targeting completion by 2031-32 and 2029-30, respectively.
