India’s Oil & Gas Sector Offers $500 Billion Investment Scope: PM Modi

New delhi, Jan 28: Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that India’s oil and gas sector offers investment opportunities worth $500 billion, urging global companies to invest and innovate in the country.

Speaking at the India Energy Week 2026, he highlighted reforms in the exploration sector, including the Samudra Manthan Mission, targeting $100 billion in investments by the decade’s end.

Modi noted India’s large refining capacity of 260 million metric tonnes per annum, aiming to surpass 300 MMT, and highlighted rising LNG demand with plans for a domestic ship-building program and expansion of pipeline networks.

He reiterated the need for investment in petrochemical products and downstream activities, asserting that India is undergoing significant reforms to create a transparent, investor-friendly environment, ultimately aiming for a competitive energy sector on a global scale.
