Power Minister Calls for Stronger Discoms to Improve Electricity Services

New Delhi, Jan 21: Power Minister Manohar Lal emphasized the importance of financially robust distribution companies (Discoms) for improved consumer services at the Electricity Distribution Industry Conference ‘EDICON: 2026’.

He advocated for cost-reflective tariffs alongside targeted subsidies for needy consumers, in line with the Electricity Act. The annual report from the All India Discoms Association highlighted ongoing efforts to enhance supply reliability and address challenges faced by the sector.

Notably, the power distribution sector saw a significant turnaround, reporting a collective profit of Rs 2,701 crore for FY2024-25, a stark contrast to previous losses, marking a potential new chapter for India’s power distribution landscape.
