New Delhi, Nov 17: Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, visited HD Hyundai Heavy Industries in Ulsan during his trip to Korea on November 13–14, 2025, to enhance maritime and shipbuilding cooperation as part of India’s Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047.
He emphasized the opportunity for Korean shipyards to “Make in India for the World,” noting that 20% of global vessels may be linked to India in the next 15 years. With significant investments expected in its shipping sector, India plans to raise its fleet from 1,500 to 2,500 vessels, underpinned by a recent USD 8 billion investment announcement.
The Minister discussed India’s energy and shipping sectors, which comprise 28% of total trade, highlighting the need for more Indian-flagged vessels. He encouraged collaboration between India and Korea’s shipbuilding sectors to leverage advanced technologies and manufacturing capabilities, aiming for long-term strategic partnerships in shipbuilding and energy infrastructure.
