PM to Inaugurate NEEPCO’s Major Hydro Projects in Arunachal Pradesh

New Delhi, Sept 22: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Arunachal Pradesh on September 22, 2025, to lay the foundation stone for two significant hydro power projects by NEEPCO in Itanagar: the Heo Hydro Electric Project (240 MW) and the Tato-I Hydro Electric Project (186 MW).

With a combined estimated cost of over Rs 3,700 Crore, these projects aim to harness the hydroelectric potential of Arunachal Pradesh, generating approximately 1000 MUs and 803 MUs annually, respectively. They are expected to promote sustainable energy generation and bring socio-economic benefits, including job creation, contributing to India’s clean energy targets and the state’s development.

NEEPCO, a subsidiary of NTPC Limited, has been pivotal in power generation in Northeast India since 1976 and currently has an installed capacity of 2,057 MW. NTPC, India’s largest power utility, aims to achieve 60 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2032, aligning with the country’s Net Zero goals.
