6th DAY OF NEYVELI BOOK FAIR CONTINUES TO ENTHRALL VISITORS and SPECIAL STALL OF DISTRICT LEGAL SERVICES AUTHORITY, CUDDALORE INAUGURATED

New Delhi, July 11: The 6th day of the Neyveli Book Fair 2024 (10.07.24) continues to enthrall visitors and draw book enthusiasts in large numbers.  School and college students from in and around Cuddalore District continued to visit the Book Fair.

A special stall put up by the “District Legal Services Authority”, Cuddalore was inaugurated by the 3rd Additional District Judge, Cuddalore at Vridhachalam, V. Ravichandran, B.sc, B.L. in the presence of Hemant Kumar, Secretary, Neyveli Book fair 2024. The stall is intended to create awareness of the Legal Services Act, details of the Legal Aid Centres available in Cuddalore District and display books related to latest amendments to important Acts.

Later, the evening’s function of the Neyveli Book Fair was held at the Lignite Hall. Dr. R. Velraj, Vice-Chancellor, Anna University, Chennai, was the Chief Guest. Thiru Appakannu Govindarajan, CVO, NLCIL, presided over the function. Pavalar Malaradian was honoured as the “Best Writer” while M/s. Publication Division, Government of India was honoured as the “Best Publisher”. Two books, “Panchavarnakili” written by Subramaniya Pandian and “Sooravali” written by K. Bhoopathi, were released during the function.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. R. Velraj, Vice-Chancellor, Anna University, said that parents had the responsibility to impart reading skills to their children. A nation grows only if it gives importance to education. India in the past had a high growth percentage but after foreign rule, it came down drastically. Now, in the last 15 years, India has resumed its economic growth percentage. Reading is the first step towards development of a nation and Book Fairs like these will inculcate the reading habit, he said.

In his Presidential address, Thiru Appakannu Govindarajan, CVO, NLCIL, said that urbanization was the fastest in Tamil Nadu. This was because it existed in the past also. During the rule of the Chola kings, there was trade with many countries. It is the past practices that give impetus to the present and future, he said. Ambedkar, who gave us the constitution, was a voracious reader of all subjects. Likewise, one should read books of diverse opinions and concepts which will help to get a balanced approach to issues.  Students should read books on all topics, he advised.

It is noteworthy that about 11,000 students from 67 schools visited the Neyveli Book Fair 2024 today apart from the general public.

The function was followed by a “cinematic dance” programme by RFBC, Chennai.
