Kolkata, May 09 In a historic political development, Suvendu Adhikari on Saturday took oath as Chief Minister, marking the formation of the first Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in West Bengal.
He was sworn in along with five members of his Council of Ministers, signalling the start of a new administration with a focus on political consolidation and inclusive representation.
Core Team Takes Shape
The ministers sworn in include senior BJP leader Dilip Ghosh, along with Agnimitra Paul, Nisith Pramanik, Ashok Kirtania and Khudiram Tudu.
Ghosh took oath after the Chief Minister, followed by Paul, Kirtania, Tudu and Pramanik. Portfolios for the ministers are yet to be announced.
Balanced Representation Across Communities
The composition of the initial cabinet reflects a calculated effort to ensure representation across key social groups.
- Kirtania is seen as a representative of the Matua community
- Tudu brings in tribal representation
- Ghosh represents the OBC segment
- Pramanik is associated with the Rajbanshi community in North Bengal
- Paul comes from an urban, professional background
Suvendu Adhikari himself belongs to a Brahmin background. Political observers view this mix as a signal of the government’s intent to maintain social balance and inclusivity.
