Railways Announces August Rollout for New Passenger Reservation System

New Delhi, May 8: Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has directed officials to ensure a smooth transition to Indian Railways’ upgraded reservation system without causing inconvenience to passengers.

The overhaul replaces the nearly 40-year-old reservation platform launched in 1986 with a modernised, high-capacity system powered by advanced technology. During a review meeting at Rail Bhawan, the minister emphasised seamless migration and improved passenger experience.

Indian Railways said online channels now handle nearly 88 per cent of ticket bookings, while the RailOne mobile app has crossed 3.5 crore downloads since its launch last year. The app now offers AI-based waitlist confirmation predictions with accuracy improving from 53 per cent to 94 per cent.

The RailOne platform integrates services including ticket booking, cancellations, refunds, live train tracking, platform information, complaint resolution and food ordering during travel. Indian Railways also stated that it provided a passenger subsidy of Rs 60,239 crore in 2024-25, translating to an average fare subsidy of 43 per cent.
