New Delhi, April 14 Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the Delhi Dehradun Economic Corridor today, marking a major boost to connectivity and infrastructure in North India.
Ahead of the inauguration, he will visit Saharanpur to review a wildlife corridor, highlighting the project’s focus on ecological sustainability. He will then offer prayers at the Jai Maa Daat Kali Temple before heading to the main event in Dehradun.
The 213-km-long, six-lane access-controlled corridor, built at a cost of over ₹12,000 crore, connects Delhi with Dehradun, passing through Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Once operational, it will cut travel time dramatically—from over six hours to about 2.5 hours.
Designed as next-generation infrastructure, the corridor includes:
- 10 interchanges and multiple bridges
- Railway overbridges and wayside amenities
- An Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) for safer travel
A key highlight is its strong environmental focus. The project features a 12-km elevated wildlife corridor, one of the longest in Asia, along with animal passes, elephant underpasses, and a tunnel near the Daat Kali temple to ensure minimal disruption to wildlife movement.
This corridor is expected to significantly boost tourism, trade, and regional economic growth while balancing development with environmental conservation.
