New Delhi, April 09: Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Wednesday held a series of high-level virtual engagements with key global counterparts to deepen bilateral trade relations and expand economic cooperation.
Goyal held a constructive discussion with Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi of the United Arab Emirates, focusing on enhancing trade ties and exploring new avenues for strategic collaboration. Both sides expressed intent to further strengthen the India-UAE economic partnership.
In a separate interaction with Francisco Pérez Mackenna of Chile, the minister reviewed progress on the proposed Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and discussed pathways to accelerate negotiations toward a mutually beneficial deal.
Goyal also engaged with Jasem Mohamed AlBudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), to reinforce cooperation across multiple sectors and reaffirm shared commitment to expanding economic and strategic ties between India and GCC member states.
Additionally, discussions with Osama Khaled Boodai focused on strengthening bilateral trade relations and enhancing collaboration across priority sectors.
The minister also virtually addressed the launch of the India–USA Trade Facilitation Portal, a digital initiative aimed at enabling direct engagement between Indian exporters and US importers, thereby improving market access and supporting trade expansion.
Separately, Goyal indicated that the government is preparing a new set of policy measures to support Indian exporters in navigating global trade disruptions arising from geopolitical tensions in West Asia. The proposed measures, currently under inter-ministerial consideration, are expected to be announced in the near term.
