New Delhi, May 28: OIL Green Energy Ltd. (OGEL), the renewable energy arm of Oil India Ltd., has signed a Joint Venture Agreement with Hindustan Waste Treatment Pvt. Ltd. (HWT) to develop bioenergy and sustainable waste management projects across India.
The partnership proposes the creation of a 50:50 joint venture company focused on compressed biogas (CBG), waste-to-energy and sustainable infrastructure projects, supporting India’s clean energy transition and circular economy goals.
Oil India Ltd. (OIL), a Maharatna PSU under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, is expanding its footprint beyond conventional hydrocarbons into renewable and green energy segments. OGEL has been established to spearhead the company’s strategic initiatives in clean energy, including CBG and emerging renewable opportunities.
HWT, a subsidiary of SFC Environmental Technologies Ltd., brings expertise in design, engineering, construction and operations of municipal solid waste-based bioenergy projects. The company has deployed advanced international technologies in India, including a municipal solid waste-based biogas plant in North Goa that has operated successfully for over a decade.
The proposed venture will identify and develop opportunities in CBG, integrated waste-to-energy and resource recovery projects across suitable locations in the country.
Officials from both organisations said the collaboration aims to strengthen India’s energy self-reliance and Atmanirbhar Bharat vision by combining OGEL’s institutional and energy sector capabilities with HWT’s technological and operational expertise in the bioenergy space.
The partnership is expected to support the development of scalable and sustainable clean energy solutions, while promoting efficient waste management and resource recovery infrastructure.
