To observe the Birth Anniversary of the Father of the Nation, NLCIL today (02-10-2021) organized a function at Neyveli, wherein rich and reverential tributes were offered to the Mahatma. Speaking on the occasion, Rakesh Kumar, Chairman-cum-Managing Director, NLCIL stated that the Company has consistently been contributing towards realization of Gandhiji’s dream of a Self Reliant India, by using its own resources to make the country self reliant for its Energy needs and contributing towards the development of the Nation.
Remembering and offering homage to Mahatma Gandhiji , CMD garlanded the bust of Gandhiji at Township Administration Office premises, in the presence of R.Vikraman, Shaji John, Jaikumar Srinivasan, Functional Directors and L.Chandrasekar, Chief Vigilance Officer, NLCIL. Playing of Gandhiji’s favourite song “Ramdhun” further added to the mood of the occasion. To mark the occasion, 25,000 saplings were planted in three Mines of NLCIL and Neyveli Township.
In his address, Rakesh Kumar listed out the five important lessons of Gandhiji viz., Truth , Non-Violence, Forgiveness, Compassion and love for all and Never Giving up in the face of challenges. While speaking on’ Swachh Bharat’, he said that Gandhiji’s teachings on Cleanliness, have now been taken on as a Pan-India agenda and being executed across the country with all sincerity.
He also mentioned that our Hon’ble Prime Minister of India has launched the Swachh Bharat initiative following the principles of Mahatma Gandhiji in the year 2014, and NLCIL, in its continued efforts of Swachh Bharat initiatives, has given importance to cleanliness and has undertaken construction of toilets, in schools and in Railway Stations across Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh.
The Union Coal Ministry’s target of producing 1 Billion Tonnes of coal domestically, so as to avoid import of coal, is a further big step towards making the country Self Reliant in its energy needs. Aligning with the motto , NLCIL is taking initiatives to get Methanol from Lignite. About 85% of methanol requirement of the nation is now fulfilled by other countries. NLCIL’s efforts on indigenous Methanol, making sand from Over Burden etc., will go a long way towards achieving Self Reliance for the country .
He also recalled that NLCIL’s R&D Department CARD has made its own Sanitizers, and three lakhs of face masks were stitched in house during the crisis.
