The year 2020 has been so far very challenging for everyone due to the Covid-19 pandemic and has brought serious physical/ mental health consequences. Faced with new realities of working from home, rising unemployment, home-schooling of children, and lack of physical contact with other family members, friends and colleagues, it has become very important to look after our mental health as much as our physical health.

To highlight the growing need for psychological assistance in the general population, the World Federation for Mental Health (WFMH) has decided upon “Greater Investment – Greater Access. Everyone, everywhere” as the theme for this year’s World Mental Health Day which is observed on 10th October.

Keeping the growing mental health needs in mind and with the aim of spreading awareness, Mind the MIND, the Psychology unit of AKGsOVIHAMS organized an awareness drive named “Towards a Healthy MIND”, from 10th to 16th October, as part of their World Mental Health Day, 2020 Celebration.

The event included hosting a series of online lectures on the social media platform Facebook by renowned mental health professionals from various parts of India. The speakers for the event were Mr. Kaartik Gupta, Mrs. Dharitri Dutta Gupta (Consultant Clinical Psychologists at AKGsOVIHAMS), Ms. Debastuti Baruah (Gerontologist and Founder of Aakuali Care Services, Guwahati), Mrs. Chalmaya Sharma (Consultant Clinical Psychologist, Assam), Mr. Arun Jacob (Clinical Psychologist and Co-Founder of Asara Psychological Wellness Centre), Mrs. Jinna Bordoloi (Clinical Psychologist and Wellness Officer, IIT Madras) and Mr. Nelson Mathew (Clinical Psychologist and Phd Scholar, Kerala). The series started with discussing the theme of this year’s Mental Health Day.
