New Delhi, 29.10.2021: On 29.10.2021, CISF took over the security of Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (PGCIL), New Wanpoh, Anantnag (J&K), with sanctioned strength of more than 140 personnel. The induction ceremony was graced by Arvind Deep, ADG (North), CISF.
Sudhanshu Kumar, IG (NS), Arshad H Khan, General Manager, PGCIL New Wanpoh, along with other officers & personnel of CISF & PGCIL were also present during the occasion. This unit is headed by Deputy Commandant rank officer. With this induction, total units under CISF security cover has risen to 353 as on date.
New Wanpoh is one of the most sensitive Power Grid installation established by PGCIL in the UT of J&K. It is situated on the Srinagar-Jammu highway (NH-44) in Qazigund tehsil of Anantnag district in cusp of Kashmir valley at an altitude of 1663.27 meters from sea level. This sub-station is a vital strategic link in power distribution system of the country which is having 400/220 KV power transmission capacity. This sub-station was conceived by the Government of India primarily with a view to meet the increase demand of power in Kashmir valley, especially during the winter month.
Due to its location, PGCIL New Wanpoh is inherently vulnerable to threats from anti-nationals & militants. The CISF will provide round-the-clock armed security cover to the PGCIL New Wanpoh, Anantnag (J&K).
