New Delhi, April 13: Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IndianOil) has significantly stepped up enforcement measures to safeguard LPG distribution, conducting over 10,600 inspections and initiating strict action against erring entities, including issuance of show-cause notices and suspensions.
In coordination with state governments, authorities have carried out more than 1.2 lakh raids and registered over 990 FIRs nationwide, reflecting an intensified crackdown on diversion, hoarding, and black marketing of LPG. IndianOil said Indane distributorships remain under continuous surveillance to ensure that supplies reach genuine consumers efficiently.
The company reiterated its focus on prioritising domestic LPG supply, maintaining transparency, and ensuring uninterrupted distribution across the country amid ongoing supply pressures.
According to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, over 51.5 lakh domestic LPG cylinders were delivered on April 10, while approximately 1 lakh 5-kg Free Trade LPG (FTL) cylinders were sold on the same day, compared to a February average of 77,000 units.
Since March 23, more than 12 lakh 5-kg cylinders have been distributed, primarily benefiting students, migrant labourers, and other vulnerable groups. These cylinders are being allocated to state governments for targeted distribution with support from public sector oil marketing companies (OMCs).
To enhance awareness and accessibility, PSU OMCs have conducted around 2,900 outreach camps over the past eight days, facilitating the sale of over 29,000 5-kg cylinders.
The government has urged citizens to avoid panic buying of fuel, rely on official communication channels, and adopt digital platforms for LPG bookings. It has also encouraged the use of alternative fuels such as piped natural gas (PNG) and electric cooking solutions, along with promoting energy conservation during the current period of supply sensitivity.
