Indian Oil Corporation Limited assures adequate fuel supply, urges consumers to avoid panic buying
New Delhi, April 4, 2026: Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IndianOil) on Saturday reassured that petrol, diesel and LPG supplies remain adequate across the country, even as the government steps up measures to safeguard fuel supply chains amid global uncertainties.
The PSU said it is closely monitoring its nationwide distribution network and taking proactive steps to curb hoarding and black marketing of LPG cylinders.
In a public advisory, the company urged consumers to avoid panic buying and unnecessary LPG bookings, emphasising that supply lines remain stable despite geopolitical tensions and disruptions around key routes such as the Strait of Hormuz.
Officials noted that Indian refiners have secured crude supplies for the coming months and retain flexibility to source oil from multiple geographies, helping cushion the impact of global volatility.
The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas said a recent LPG consignment imported from Iran has arrived at Mangaluru port and is being discharged, further supporting domestic supply.
To counter misinformation, 21 states and Union Territories are conducting regular press briefings, while the Centre has directed Chief Secretaries to intensify communication through social and electronic media.
Additionally, oil marketing companies are facilitating access to 5-kg LPG cylinders without address proof. Since March 23, around 5.7 lakh units have been sold, including over 71,000 cylinders in a single day, improving accessibility for consumers.
Authorities reiterated that fuel availability remains stable, with coordinated efforts underway to ensure seamless distribution and prevent artificial shortages.
