Oslo, May 19: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said India and Norway support a rules-based global order and diplomacy, while backing all efforts aimed at achieving an early end to conflicts in Ukraine and West Asia.

Addressing the media alongside Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store in Oslo, Modi said both countries believe military conflict cannot resolve global challenges and stressed the need for dialogue and peaceful engagement.

“India and Norway believe in rules-based order, dialogue and diplomacy,” Modi said, adding that both nations support global peace efforts, reforms of international institutions and a collective commitment to eliminating terrorism in all forms.

The Prime Minister announced that India and Norway have elevated bilateral ties to a Green Strategic Partnership, marking a significant expansion of cooperation in sustainability and technology-driven growth.

Modi said the partnership will combine India’s scale, speed and talent with Norway’s technology and investment strength to develop global solutions.

Highlighting broader geopolitical and economic shifts, Modi said India and Europe are entering a “new golden era” in relations at a time when multiple regions face instability and conflict.

He described the India-European Free Trade Association (EFTA) Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement as a transformational framework for shared prosperity, noting that it targets USD 100 billion in investment inflows into India and creation of one million jobs over the next 15 years.

According to Modi, both countries have taken several decisions to convert the commitments under the agreement into tangible economic outcomes.

The Green Strategic Partnership will focus on clean energy, climate resilience, blue economy and green shipping, strengthening collaboration across sectors linked to sustainable development and industrial transformation.

The Prime Minister also highlighted Norway’s strategic importance in Arctic affairs and thanked the country for supporting operations at India’s Arctic research station, Himadri.

He said the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the Norwegian Space Agency would open a new phase of bilateral cooperation in space and polar research.

Modi noted that stronger collaboration in Arctic science, climate research and space technologies would help scientists from both countries better understand climate change, protect vulnerable ecosystems and contribute to humanity’s long-term future.

He said the India-Norway Green Strategic Partnership is expected to generate benefits extending beyond bilateral relations and contribute to global sustainability efforts.
