Tehran, April 06: India has underscored the need to restore stability and security in West Asia while expressing support for ongoing efforts to end the conflict, according to a statement from Iran’s Foreign Ministry.
External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar held a telephonic conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Sunday to discuss the evolving situation in the region.
During the conversation, Araghchi raised concerns over what he described as attacks by US and Israeli forces on Iran’s industrial infrastructure and safeguarded nuclear facilities, and criticised continued threats targeting the country’s energy sector. He also called on the international community and the United Nations to address violations of international law and prevent the normalisation of war-related actions.
He further emphasised Iran’s resolve to defend its national interests and warned of wider implications of ongoing military actions for both regional and global stability.
In response, Jaishankar highlighted the importance of restoring peace in West Asia and conveyed India’s support for diplomatic and international initiatives aimed at halting the conflict.
Earlier, Jaishankar had confirmed the call in a post on X, noting that the two leaders discussed the prevailing regional situation, without sharing further details.
The exchange comes amid escalating tensions in West Asia, particularly around the Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil transit route, raising concerns over potential disruptions and a broader geopolitical crisis.
