GAIL and MOL Seal Long-Term LNG Carrier Charter Agreement

On January 27, 2026, during India Energy Week in Goa, GAIL (India) Limited and Mitsui O.S.K. Lines Ltd (MOL) signed a long-term charter agreement for the LNG carrier “GAIL BHUWAN.”

The agreement, aimed at enhancing LNG shipping and energy logistics, was officially endorsed by S Bairagi of GAIL and Mr. Hisashi Umemura of MOL, with the presence of GAIL’s CMD and other dignitaries.

This partnership, which is part of a joint venture with LNG Japonica Shipping Corporation Limited, symbolizes a significant advancement in India’s maritime and energy supply chain capabilities aligned with the ‘Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047.’

Both GAIL and MOL are committed to net-zero emission targets, marking the agreement as a step toward a decarbonized society. GAIL holds a prominent position in India’s natural gas sector with a comprehensive portfolio in LNG shipping and infrastructure, owning over 18,001 km of natural gas pipelines.

It stands as a leading LNG portfolio marketer with the nation’s largest LNG fleet, ensuring consistent supply to meet India’s rising demand. Meanwhile, MOL has integrated a regional strategy within its BLUE ACTION 2035 management plan, focusing on Asia’s economic growth and strengthening its business ties with GAIL to support energy transport and logistics infrastructure amid increasing natural gas demand in India.
