New Delhi, March 23: A day ahead of presenting the Delhi Budget 2025–26, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta will conduct the traditional “Kheer Ceremony,” marking the formal start of the Budget Session in New Delhi.
The ceremony, introduced last year, involves preparing the traditional Indian dessert kheer and offering it to Lord Ram before distributing it among officials and contributors involved in the budget-making process. The ritual is intended to symbolise an auspicious beginning to the financial proceedings.
Gupta is set to present her second consecutive budget on March 24, following a series of pre-budget consultations held at the Delhi Secretariat. These engagements included interactions with gig workers, farmers, rural representatives, and labour groups to incorporate diverse stakeholder inputs into the financial plan.
Emphasising participatory governance, the Chief Minister noted that public engagement is central to shaping a “developed Delhi,” with the government aiming to reflect the aspirations of all sections of society in the budget.
Looking ahead, Gupta has also indicated a strong policy focus on women and girls, with plans to introduce women-centric initiatives in the upcoming budget. Speaking at a ‘Nari Utsav’ programme at the Nirmal Chhaya Complex, she highlighted the role of women in driving socio-economic progress and contributing to the broader vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
The pre-budget ceremony underscores a blend of tradition and governance, setting the tone for a budget expected to prioritise inclusivity and social development.
