Centre Releases Rs 10,021 Crore to 12 States Under PMAY-G

New Delhi, May 29: The Centre on Thursday released a “mother sanction” of Rs 10,021.42 crore to 12 states under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G), accelerating efforts to achieve the ‘Housing for All’ target by March 2029.

The sanction was issued through video conferencing to Assam, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh.

Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said the government has made substantial progress under PMAY-G, with 3.91 crore houses approved against the target of 4.95 crore, while over 3.05 crore homes have already been completed.

According to Rohit Kansal, Secretary, Ministry of Rural Development, the latest release follows an earlier Rs 11,121 crore mother sanction for FY27, taking total sanctioned support to over Rs 21,000 crore.

Kansal noted that the housing target for FY27 is three times higher than last year, with implementation planned through close Centre-State coordination.

Chouhan reiterated that the government’s objective is to eliminate kutcha housing among poor families, emphasising that PMAY-G goes beyond home construction by integrating roads, electricity, drinking water, LPG connections and sanitation facilities.

The minister also highlighted state-led innovations such as helplines, grievance redressal systems, rainwater harvesting, self-help group livelihood initiatives and mason training programmes, which have helped accelerate implementation.

Women-centric ownership remains a key feature of the scheme, with nearly 75 per cent of sanctioned houses either registered in women’s names or under joint ownership, strengthening financial and social security.

Chouhan urged states to address land availability challenges faced by poor households, expedite pending approvals and ensure timely utilisation of funds.

He also called on states lagging behind 2024-25 and 2025-26 approval targets to complete the process by June 30, 2026.

In addition, the minister encouraged PMAY-G beneficiaries to plant at least one sapling under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign on World Environment Day, June 5.
