Mumbai, April 10: Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has announced the appointment of Sanjay Khanna as its Chairman and Managing Director (C&MD), following approval from the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC).
The appointment, based on recommendations from the Search-cum-Selection Committee under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, will be effective from the date of assumption of charge. Khanna will serve until his superannuation on May 31, 2029, or until further orders.
Currently serving as Director (Refineries), Khanna brings over three decades of experience in refinery operations, project execution, and technical services. His elevation is expected to strengthen BPCL’s strategic focus on value-added products, petrochemical integration, and operational efficiency, while advancing long-term energy security and sustainable growth initiatives.
An alumnus of National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli and the University of Mumbai, Khanna has played a key role in expanding BPCL’s refining and petrochemical capabilities. He has previously led both Mumbai and Kochi refineries, driving capacity expansion and operational improvements.
Notably, as Executive Director of Kochi Refinery, he oversaw the successful commissioning of BPCL’s Propylene Derivative Petrochemical Project (PDPP), marking a significant milestone in the company’s diversification into petrochemicals despite pandemic-related challenges.
The leadership transition comes at a time when BPCL is navigating an evolving energy landscape, with increased emphasis on downstream integration, efficiency, and future-ready energy strategies.
